Starting December 12th, players will be collecting holiday skins, throwing snowballs, and celebrating the festivities together.
With last year's introduction of Mei's Snowball Offensive being labelled as a huge success, the popular mode will be making another appearance this Overwatch holiday event as players team up for a squad-based snowball fight. That in and of itself is news, but to go along with it, Blizzard is finally releasing a Hanzo skin. Find out more in an update from Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan in the video below.
The OverwatchWinter Wonderland event will kick off on December 12. Those two will make a return, while the Arena map Black Forest will also receive one of these seasonal passes. Items from the previous year will be discounted and cheaper than the new items, similar to this year's Halloween event which also features the previous Halloween themed collections at a discounted rate. These limited time decorated maps are always just handsome and Kaplan described this as "one of the most gorgeous jobs [Blizzard's] environmental artists have ever done." so we are in for something special this year. What's new here is it's expanding to the Black Forest map too, and a change in scenery is always a nice addition to have. This is similar to the lockout elimination mode in the arcade.
Once triggered, the Mei's have to run for their lives and try to escape the angry Yeti. This new mode will pit five Mei players against a single overpowered Winston (no doubt sporting his Yeti skin). Additionally, a new game mode called Mei's Yetti Hunt will be introduced that is created to play out like a boss fight.
That won't sound like much to most people, but for a small subset of Overwatch fans, it was an announcement they'd been craving all year: Hipster, undercut Hanzo from the 2016 Reflections comic is going to be an in-game skin.
