John Mayer, 40, is now in surgery to remove his appendix at a New Orleans hospital, a rep for the singer tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

Mayer has been on tour with Dead and Company.

The group postponed a New Orleans concert date on Tuesday and is now postponing two more dates in Orlando and Sunrise, Florida, this week.

John Mayer underwent an emergency appendectomy Tuesday morning, forcing the rocker to postpone a New Orleans Dead & Company show. Fans also have the option to receive a full refund.

Along with Mayer, Dead & Company consists of Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir, as well as Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti. While the procedure is common, the surgical removal of the appendix is performed to treat appendicitis, an inflammatory condition of the appendix. It's unclear when he'll be healthy enough to get back on the road to continue. The singer-guitarist was due to perform later that night at a concert with the Dead & Company, but that date has now been postponed.

There is no news yet on the surgery's outcome.
