Horror-inspired Riverdale spinoff, Sabrina, is coming to Netflix

Archie Comics

(Riverdale itself was originally developed for Fox before it landed at CW.) According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series has yet to receive an official title, but has already received a 20-episode straight-to-series order from the streaming giant. So, when will the Sabrina reboot be on Netflix?

The Sabrina the Teenage Witch spin-off from the CW's hot Archie show Riverdale is coming to Netflix.

Aguirre-Sacasa wrote the pilot script and Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti will be executive producing.

Now that the two shows are on different networks, It remains to be seen if there will be any formal association between Riverdale and the Sabrina series.

In the introduction to Chilling Adventures' original collected edition, Aguirre-Sacasa said this of the comics' tone: "If Afterlife with Archie was about Lovecraft and zombies and body horror, Sabrina would be more psychological, a bit more subtle (but only a bit), a bit more sexual (as stories about witches often are)". Many, including myself, found Riverdale streaming on Netflix and binged the entire series.

Move over, Melissa Joan Hart-a new Sabrina Spellman is coming to town. No word on if that plan has changed now that the show has jumped from The CW to Netflix.

So uh, maybe don't expect a laugh track à la beloved sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch. THR says the CW and Warner Bros.

The Sabrina show had been in development in September at The CW as a possible companion-show to Riverdale, as both shows are from Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and are based on characters from the Archie Comic universe. Described as tonally being in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature - half-witch, half-mortal - while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Apparently, Netflix wants to move fast on the series saying that the seasons would shoot back-to-back with the first filming from February to June and the second June to October.
