Burqa-clad Taliban terrorists attack college in Pakistan, at least five wounded

University hostel under attack in northwest Pakistan

The injured are being taken to Khyber Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Reportedly, an explosion was also heard amid intense firing.

Authorities said the gunmen had been killed and security forces had cleared the area after searching for remaining militants.

The attackers reportedly exchanged fire with security forces at the Directorate of Agriculture Institute of Peshawar on Friday morning, the chief of police in the northwestern city, Tahir Khan said.

The KP police said that all terrorists were neutralised after a successful clearance operation by the security forces. "I got up and within seconds everybody was running and shouting 'the Taliban have attacked, '" said a student.

A spokesman for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Muhammad Khurasani, claimed responsibility for the attack in a telephone call to foreign wire service AFP.

Agriculture Directorate is located in front of the Agriculture University where gunmen opened fire at and entered the building under the cover of fire.

"Our mujahids have attacked the building, God willing our fighters will fight till the last drop of blood", he said.

The area where the incident occurred is a hub for educational institutions in the city including the University of Peshawar.

The Pakistani Taliban later released a video showing the attack, recorded with what appeared to be a body-mounted camera. The university hostel usually houses almost 400 students, but most had gone home for a long holiday weekend and only about 120 students remained.

"We were sleeping when we heard gunshots".

In a similar attack, Pakistani Taliban gunmen, in December 2014, had killed 134 children at Peshawar's Army Public School. Peshawar, close to the Afghan border, has seen some of the worst violence during the Taliban insurgency in recent years.
