WaPo Reveals a Political Activist Faked a Roy Moore Story

Washington Post catches ‘Project Veritas’ undercover sting meant to discredit Roy Moore reporting

A conservative group known for undercover investigations has been linked to a woman who falsely told The Washington Post that Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore impregnated her as a teenager, the newspaper reported. The Post editors said they found "inconsistencies" with the woman's story on the internet. Earlier in the day, reporters from the newspaper saw Phillips walking into the NY offices of Project Veritas, a conservative group with a long track record of targeting Democratic groups and major media outlets, often by hiding their identities and using hidden cameras.

She also apparently had a GoFundMe account from May raising money so she could move to New York City and "work in the conservative media movement to combat the lies and deceit of the liberal [mainstream media]".

Post reporters also saw Phillips entering the Mamaroneck, New York, office of Project Veritas, a group known for targeting the media in undercover stings, the report said.

Washington Post reporters saw Phillips entering the NY offices of O'Keefe's group, Project Veritas, on Monday, according to the report.

According to the Washington Post, Phillips claimed that she was interviewed by a Daily Caller employee named Kathy Johnson; the Daily Caller's executive editor told the Washington Post that the outlet has no employee with that name. "But this so-called off-the-record conversation was the essence of a scheme to deceive and embarrass us".

Phillips last week suggested meeting with another Washington Post reporter who co-wrote the same report as Reinhard, Stephanie McCrummen. The intent by Project Veritas clearly was to publicize the conversation if we fell for the trap, ' Baron continued.

Armed with their research, Post reporter McCrummen and a video team from the newspaper met with Phillips in an Alexandria, Virginia restaurant on November 22.

'Because of our customary journalistic rigor, we weren't fooled, and we can't honor an "off-the-record" agreement that was solicited in maliciously bad faith'. She told the reporters that he got her pregnant and then drove her get an abortion.

Then came the smoking gun: Post researchers discovered a fundraising page made by Phillips seeking financial support for a move to NY. O'Keefe denied subsequent requests for comment regarding Phillips' appearance at the office in addition to questions asking if he was working with Moore, former White House adviser and Moore supporter Steve Bannon, or other Republican officials.

The email promised "I might know something" about Moore - and after a series of communications through the Signal encrypted messaging service, the woman eventually said her name was Jaime Phillips, and that she was willing to meet in person.
