HTC U11 Getting Android Oreo Update Today, Starting With Unlocked Units

Android 8.0 Oreo for unlocked HTC U11 will arrive tomorrow ...

This update comes just two days after the Sony Xperia XZ and Xperia XZs were updated to Android Oreo.

HTC's Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi announced the news via his Twitter handle in the midst of Thanksgiving. Unlocking HTC U11 users in the U.S. will get the update notification very soon.

Unfortunately, he didn't share any specific in terms of dates, but now that it's rolling out for the HTC U11, we can only hope that it will reach more HTC handsets and carrier-locked devices soon. The smartphone was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and it was upgraded to Android Nougat towards the end of 2016.

He didn't give any details on timing for the non-U11 devices, only going as far as saying that "It's coming soon".

You must take your valuable data and images out from the smartphone using a microSD card or any other hard drive because the update may cause loss of your data.

There is no word on when the final stable version of the Oreo update will reach both V30 and V30+ phones, but it is at least a couple of weeks away.

As it was expected from them, HTC has started offering the Android Oreo OS for its U11 smartphone.

Right now, it remains unclear what's new inside the Oreo update for the U11, but we do know picture-in-picture mode, faster boot times, autofill for passwords, better security, better battery life, and new emojis are on board as standard. HTC U11 is the first ever smartphone to feature "squeezable sides". The update includes reminders that prompt you for unfinished tasks such as emails in draft and messages, redesigned app shortcuts with long-press access to actions, and smart text selection that contextually recognises and suggests options based on selected text. The feature can easily be customised inside the settings menu.
