Jose Mourinho Fears Manchester United Will Lose Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini

Jose Mourinho has admitted he is concerned Marouane Fellaini could leave Manchester United as he has yet to agree a new contract.

The 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer and despite the club's attempts to keep him, he has so far snubbed everything that has been put in front of him and is free to negotiate with clubs in the January over his next move.

However, Mourinho's hopes of having Eric Bailly back for the game have been dashed, while Phil Jones' injury means Marcos Rojo could play again after ending his long injury lay-off in the midweek Champions League defeat at Basel.

And Mourinho insists that the matter is out of his hands now and that it is up to the board to negotiate with the former Everton midfielder over a new deal.

"I'm not involved in contracts, in deals, and I respect both parties".

Their want for further defensive reinforcements combined with their need to comply with Financial Fair Play requirements has led them to pursue Fellaini; the Parisians are already in discussions with Fellaini's representatives and are not anxious by the Belgian's potentially vast wage demands due to the lack of transfer fee required.

"Discussions are under [the board's] control".

"So I just wait, wishing that they will have an understanding but it's out of my control".

'We can not think about the gap, ' said the United manager.

"I feel weaker without Fellaini in my squad, doesn't matter if it's on the pitch or on the bench".

"Rojo played very well". Veteran forward Ibrahimovic was not even expected to be offered another deal for this season let alone one for next year, and Shaw's future has been in question ever since Mourinho stated the Englishman does not feature in United's plans.

At the start of an eight-day period in which United play Brighton, Watford and Arsenal in the Premier League, Mourinho has called on his supporters to show patience as they look to eat into Manchester City's commanding lead at the top of the table.
