Cult leader from the 1960s and convicted mass murderer Charles Manson died Sunday evening at a Kern County hospital. On the following night, Manson and his followers killed Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, at their home in the Los Feliz district of Los Angeles.

Charles Manson was the head of the cult known as The Manson Family.

"He was the dictatorial ruler of the (Manson) family, the king, the Maharaja".

Over the years, Manson, an unsettling figure with a swastika tattooed on his forehead whose name was synonymous with insanity, anarchy and brutality, appeared before a prison board several times to argue for his parole.

On August 9, 1969, "Manson Family" murdered actress Sharon Tate, who was eight months' pregnant, celebrity hairstylist Jay Sebring, coffee fortune heiress Abigail Folger, writer Wojciech Frykowski and Steven Parent, a friend of the family's caretaker, according to CNN. It was an idea he claimed he received from the Beatles' song "Helter Skelter". "I was within his grasp just one year before he committed brutal murder in 1969", the "Breaking Bad" star tweeted Monday. "My cousin called me first and said, 'Can you believe this?' The picture of Charlie Manson was the guy on the back of this horse".

He maintained that he was innocent and that society was the one that was guilty, the Associated Press reports. Manson also was convicted in December of that year for first-degree murder for the July 25, 1969, death of Gary Hinman and the August 1969 death of Donald Shea. Until then, he'd been imprisoned for life after his original death sentence was commuted when the state of California abolished the death penalty in 1972.

Vincent Bugliosi, the chief prosecutor of Manson and his acolytes, Manson described him as "an evil, sophisticated con man with twisted and warped moral values".

Manson was serving his multiple life sentences at California State Prison in Corcoran. He applied for parole no less than 12 times and was denied every attempt. "[.] Today, Manson's victims are the ones who should be remembered and mourned on the occasion of his death".
