Android Oreo update lands on OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T

OnePlus 3T

OnePlus recently launched its latest smartphone - the OnePlus 5T.

The company during the OnePlus 5T keynote had promised that the new smartphone will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo open beta by end of December. The trend changed with Android 4.4 Kit Kat which managed to find its way on a lot of models and some of them got upgraded to the versions released after that.

This makes OnePlus one of the first smartphone manufacturers to start rolling out the Android Oreo upgrade.

The debate continues as to why new Android smartphones doesn't land with the latest operating system.

OnePlus announced the 5T last week with Android Nougat 7.1.1, but one year-old OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T are already getting the new Android 8.0 Oreo. As a result, OnePlus 3 and 3T has finally and officially received the Android Oreo update. There hasn't been any significant leap in hardware over the past 6 months, so what the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T both pack is pretty much still top-of-the-line - a Snapdragon 835 and 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. In addition the update includes all the Android security patches released up to September 2017. Besides what's to be expected from Oreo, it's adding parallel apps, picture in picture, auto fill, and smart text selection to the mix. So there would be a small section of OnePlus 3 and 3T users that would be getting the update today before it is made available on a wider scale. Users will be able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus. Starting with the launch of the OnePlus 5T, OnePlus will no longer target benchmarks with performance modes that do not represent day-to-day usage.

If you don't see any push notification on your phone's display after a couple of days, you can even check for the new updates manually.
