Liam Miller, former Manchester United and Celtic midfielder, undergoing cancer treatment

Liam Miller is understood to be battling cancer and has visited the US for treatment

The 36-year-old midfielder has been undergoing treatment in the U.S., a BBC Sport pundit has said.

Miller began his career with Celtic in 2000, winning the Scottish Premiership in 2004 before leaving that same summer.

Fellow Corkman David Meyler added: "We heard the news but we were unsure of all the details".

Miller, who won 21 global caps over a 16-year career, broke through at Celtic before he was lured to the Premier League by Alex Ferguson in 2004.

Ex-England striker Chris Sutton said: "All thoughts and prayers go out to my old teammate Liam Miller tonight".

United also used their official Twitter account to say: "The thoughts of everyone at Manchester United go out to Liam Miller and his loved ones at this hard time".

It was confirmed last night that former Celtic and Man United footballer Liam Miller, 36, is beginning chemotherapy this week to combat pancreatic cancer.

"Awful news about Liam Miller keep the fingers crossed that he somehow pulls through", McManus tweeted. A short spell at Loftus Road was followed by stints at Hibernian, the Australian clubs Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City, his home-town club Cork City and, most recently, Wilmington.

"That's from the whole team and everyone".

Ex-Celtic defender Darren O'Dea, now with Dundee, said: 'All my thoughts and love with Liam Miller and his family'.
