Lions escape against winless Browns but must be better to reach playoffs

Cleveland Browns

The Lions won their second straight game after a 38-24 win over the Cleveland Browns, moving to 5-4 on the season.

The game was tied 24-24 entering the fourth quarter.

The Lions then put together a 75-yard drive of their own that ended with Theo Riddick's 8-yard catch of a Stafford aerial to deadlock the score at 24 with just 52 seconds left in the third quarter.

After getting off to a strong start and taking a 10-0 lead today in Detroit, the Browns fell apart with a bad play call at the end of the first half, an injury to quarterback DeShone Kizer and some ugly coverage in their secondary.

With 15 seconds left in the first half, the Browns had the ball inside the Lions' five with no timeouts, but they called a run play which the Lions stopped, and then the Brown didn't have enough time to get another play off, ending the first half with the Lions up 17-10.

They rushed for 201 yards and 6.1 yards per carry against a Detroit defense that came into the game giving up just 3.6 yards per carry. He is, by far, the Lions' biggest receiver.

See how Twitter reacted to the touchdown and the Browns' lead. One had to wonder, could this be the beginnings of an ugly Browns game?

The Browns made mistakes, including at the end of the first half when they botched the most basic elements in clock management. He was able to walk to the locker room later in the quarter, but was ruled out early in the second half.

The Browns were driving as time elapsed when Detroit's Darius Slay intercepted Kizer in the end zone to set the final score.

Following the injury, the wheels failed off the defense even more.

It also moves the team one game closer to what certainly must be the end of Jackson's tenure as head coach with the Browns.
