Veterans Get A Special

Students, civilians, veterans, and active military alike gathered in Dauphin Junior High School's gym for a Veterans' Day program on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

There will be a soup, bake and craft sale with vendors at the Beech Creek-Blanchard Fire Company Social Hall from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m.

The 15th annual Veterans Day Prayer for America Service will be held at 7 p.m., with Fair Play Brass playing at 6:30 p.m., at Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St., the old stone church with a clock in the steeple.

The Su Valley Jr/Sr High School Symphonic Choir sang with the Talkeetna Elementary 3rd-5th grade students in the patriotic song, "Stars and Stripes".

The veterans day program in Sibley will be on Friday, November 10th at the Sibley-Ocheyedan High School. The name was changed in 1954 to honor all military veterans. Brown County Veteran Services Officer Greg Peterson will be the keynote speaker. A Veterans Community Lunch will be held at 11:30. Registration is closed, but they are planning on 110 veterans, according to American Legion Pressman Kosters Post 329 Commander Arlyn Kleinwolterink.


Van Dalsen and Conley posed for a photograph in front of the Veterans Memorial Wall, which is inscribed with names of residents who served in conflicts from the French and Indian War to the present day.

The Pennsylvania Military Museum will be open on Veterans Day with free admission for military veterans and their immediate family members.

Brandon Elementary: Veterans Day program will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday, with Boy Scout Troup 134 assisting.

Local veterans were invited to the Port Dickinson Elementary School's assembly on Thursday morning. The featured speech will be by Army Major Gen. Donald Lynn.

The event is sponsored by the Custer American Legion but it's the Custer High School Student Council who organize this district wide event. Closing remarks will be by Kenneth Nimmons, president of Student Veterans at Parkland, followed by a moment of silence with the playing of taps before the retiring of the colors.
