Income Tax Officials Raid In Jaya TV Office In Chennai

Income Tax officials conducted raids at Jaya TV office in Chennai

I-T officials said the raids under "Operation Clean Money" targeted shell firms belonging to 10 groups, including those run by members of Sasikala family. Family members of Sasikala, particularly her nephew Vivek Jayaraman took up the reigns of the Channel.

The house was one of the few premises belonging to Sasikala's extended family, but was not touched by the Income Tax department as raids were conducted in 187 places belonging to the close aides and relatives of Dhinakaran and Sasikala.

Speaking to reporters after conducting gho-pooja at his Adyar residence, Dhinakaran said the raids were aimed at removing his aunt Sasikala and him from politics.

Jaya TV also reported the searches by tax sleuths in its premises and at Jazz cinemas.

Jaya TV, a prominent TV channel in Tamil Nadu, was started by former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa. The central government is behind these raids. They can not think that they will benefit in Tamil Nadu by destroying both.

The raids began around 6 am, and according to officials, taking place at more than 180 different locations.

The Income Tax department also raided AIADMK Karnataka in-charge, Pugazhendi's house in Bengaluru's Domlur area.

The state secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), R. Mutharasan, termed the raids as a case of abuse of official machinery. "We told the taxi company that the drivers will not be allowed to use their phones", said the official.

The list of locations that were raided reads like a family directory of jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala.

Dinakaran and Sasikala head a group inside the decision AIADMK for control of the gathering, which right now is in the hands of boss priest E Palanisami and his agent O Panneerselvam. However, after the party broke into factions led by Chief Minister K. Palaniswami, former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (who later became Deputy Chief Minister after merging his faction with Palaniswami's), and Sasikala and Dinakaran, they promoted only the Sasikala-Dinakaran faction. "Centre sent I-T department for his remarks against demonetisation", he said.
