Special Counsel Mueller has enough evidence to charge Flynn, son

Flynn's lawyer Robert Kelner declined to comment when asked if Flynn denies any collusion with Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

Bringing charges against Flynn would represent another major escalation in Mueller's probe into alleged Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.

If Mueller does charge Flynn it would be a milestone because it would mark the first time that a current or former Trump administration official would be formally charged with committing a crime.

According to an exclusive report from NBC News, federal investigators have gathered enough evidence to bring charges against Flynn and his son.

The White House called an unscheduled press briefing on Sunday to clarify Michael T. Flynn's role in the Trump campaign, claiming that his job consisted entirely of making coffee when George Papadopoulos was busy with other matters.

Trump and his officials downplayed earlier arrests due to their work on the campaign rather than the administration, a charge for Flynn could would see that argument quashed.

Last week, three individuals were charged in the investigation headed up by special counsel and former FBI director Robert Mueller. Sanders had also said President Donald Trump "has confidence they're going to close this up soon". The retired army lieutenant general was sacked in February after less than a month on the job after it was revealed he had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about the extent of his dealings and communications with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.

The report indicates that Mueller's investigation is moving at a quick, steady pace. But cooperation from Flynn, who was national security adviser for only 24 days before he was sacked, could help his son avoid the worst penalties. Both are facing a 12-count indictment for conspiracy against the United States, laundering money, and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign principal. Another former Trump campaign aide, George Papadopoulos, has pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
