Paris Masters: Filip Krajinovic beats John Isner to reach final

Rafael Nadal battled through to the quarter-finals today

"I m going to enjoy today and then see how it goes tomorrow (Saturday). Everyone knows (Krajinovic) is a very talented player and he's showcasing that".

"It's very, very disappointing", Isner said.

"I had an opportunity here to do some things (ATP Finals) I've never done before, " Isner said. But I think it just goes to show how physical tennis is, especially with someone like Rafa who's played a lot this year.

The 77th-ranked Krajinovic had won only 17 matches in his whole career - thwarted by injuries - before this tournament.

The tie-breaker was a tense affair but it was the younger of the two men who prevailed as Krajinovic become the first qualifier to reach the final in Paris since Jerzy Janowicz in 2012. He was supposed to face Nadal in the quarter-finals yesterday, but the World Number 1 pulled himself out of the tournament which sent the Serbian straight into the semis. Nadal has not said whether he will be fit enough to play in the Finals, starting on November 12.

Krajinovic, who only lost six points on serve in the first set, gained in confidence as the first set by holding serve with relative ease before closing out the opener with a love service hold.

Cilic double faulted to hand the opening set to Benneteau and the Frenchman played the closing stages of the second perfectly, wrapping up the match with a superb forehand victor down the line on the Croatian's serve.

The 32-year-old Isner forged a break point at the start of the third set, but missed it with a wasteful forehand which went long.

Isner was a set down but 40-30 up on his serve when the incident occurred.

Refuting any suggestion that he might be suffering an injury, Isner said, "It wasn't a physical issue". I don't like to stop in the middle of the match.

Krajinovic, who dropped out of the world's top 200 a year ago after surgery to remove an extra bone in his right wrist, dug deep to come through a deciding-set tie-break against the big-serving Isner, who struck 31 aces.

Reaching the final is particularly sweet for a top-10 junior whose promising career was held back by an extra bone in his right wrist that needed treatment, following on from a right shoulder operation in 2011.

"So it was hard for me, but my family stayed with me".

"I didn't know if I was going to be even close".

Nor has he forgotten the sponsors who dropped him when he was down.

The second of those game when Krajinovic fired off a blistering victor from a return, before holding his own serve to trigger wild celebrations from his coach and fans in the crowd.
