New Zealand win by 40 runs, level series 1-1

NZ include Phillips and bat; Siraj debuts for India

India and New Zealand resumed their T20I battle in the second of the three-match series at Rajkot on Saturday with the hosts coming into the game with a 1-0 lead.

Munro smacked seven sixes and as many boundaries in his 58-ball blitz to help New Zealand post a commanding 196-2 in a match they needed to win to stay alive in the three-match contest. Thus, we expect Kiwis to make a couple of changes to their playing XI.

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second Twenty20 worldwide between India and New Zealand at Rajkot.

Mohammed Siraj, who earned his first Team India call-up, will be replacing retired pacer Ashish Nehra.

The Indian openers who notched up a match-winning partnership of 158 runs in the previous game failed to click today at Rajkot.

2 - Munro's century in this game is his 2nd T20I century with the 101 against Bangladesh in January being his first.

The 30-year-old opening batsman had to take a backseat as partner Martin Guptill went about attacking the Indian bowling attack in the initial overs.

The opening pair put up a commanding display making the most of the power-play options and though the home team removed skipper Kane Williamson cheaply in the 15th over, with the right hander having a go at Siraj and offering a straight forward catch to Rohit Sharma at deep forward of square leg, Munro demonstrated the fearless and flamboyant trait to bat right through the innings. They lost to Australia by 49 runs in Bridgetown, 2010 and by 47 runs against New Zealand in Nagpur previous year.

In the chase, India lost both Rohit Sharma (5) and Shikhar Dhawan (1) to Boult (4-34) in the second over. At the other end, Virat Kohli kept things going on as he looked set for another master class. Shreyas Iyer got to Colin Munro after struggling to get runs with required rate climbing up.

Chahal was surprisingly willing to give the ball a lot of air on a flat pitch and got the treatment his deliveries deserved while Patel was blown away by Munro's extraordinary power. The Indian innings ended at 156 for 7 in 20 overs.

New Zealand (Playing XI): Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (c), Tom Bruce, Glenn Phillips (w), Henry Nicholls, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult.
