Bowling Green man charged with assaulting Sen. Paul

The newspaper reported the attack happened at Paul's Bowling Green home at 3:21 p.m. Friday.

A Kentucky man has been arrested for assaulting Senator Rand Paul in his home on Friday.

Kelsey Cooper, Paul's Kentucky communications director, emailed a statement about incident to various news outlets, saying the Senator was "blindsided" by the attack. According to the release, Boucher was arrested by Trooper Bartley Weaver and charged with assaulting Paul, a Republican who has been Kentucky's junior senator since 2011. The Daily Caller reports that Boucher appears to be a registered Democrat.


According to the neighbor, Senator Paul and Boucher have had ongoing problems. An address on file with the county lists Boucher as living in a gated community just east of Paul's home in Bowling Green.

Republican Senator Rand Paul was also at the scene of the Congressional baseball shooting in June, when Bernie Sanders supporter James Hodgkinson opened fire, critically injuring Rep. Steve Scalise.

The attacker, 59-year-old Rene Boucher, was arrested and as being held in Warren County jail on a $5,000 bond.
