Battle for Azeroth Expansion Announced

Overwatch is a hugely popular game played by over 35 million people lots of esport potential

The Alliance will begin in the pirate-infested Kul Tiras, while the Horde will tackle the trolls on the continent of Zandalar. Blizzard has officially announced World of Warcraft Classic, it's very own, official legacy server.

Battle for Azeroth will bring significant changes to the Player-versus-Player (PvP) content for World of Warcraft, Blizzard announced at BlizzCon 2017. The time for compromise has passed, however, and now Azeroth is on the brink of world war.

For longtime World of Warcraft fans, this is a dream come true.

Battle of Azeroth also offers several new races for players to unlock, 10 new dungeons, and new mechanics such as the Heart of Azeroth and Warfronts.

In an extensive interview with Polygon, World of Warcraft director Ion Hazzikostas discussed the game's journey since Warlords of Draenor-an expansion with poor endgame content partly responsible for driving almost 4 million subscribers away.

"The battle against the Legion has left the world broken-but the shattered trust between the Alliance and the Horde could prove the hardest wound to mend", according to the official press release. In addition to that, new "warfront" groups will find 20 players joining up to battle for control of areas integral to both Alliance and Horde players' group success. The server was massively popular, but Blizzard issued a cease and desist order for copyright infringement. Titled "Battle for Azeroth", this new expansion aims to reignite age-old tensions between the Horde and the Alliance.

"Battle for Azeroth will make you prouder than ever to declare your allegiance to the noble Alliance", said Blizzard's senior vice president and executive producer J Allen Brack on stage.

This, of course, was a reference to how players called the classic World of Warcraft servers. And for more from BlizzCon, check out the full schedule of events planned for the weekend.

The previous expansion, World of Warcraft: Legion, was released back in 2016, while World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor made its debut three years ago in November 2014.
