Conor McGregor Feels Tony Ferguson May Be Next For Him

It was McGregor's first big chance to take the lead in promoting himself as a star attraction.

The match ended with a 10th-round stoppage as Mayweather ended his career with a ideal 50-0 record. But McGregor, nicknamed "The Notorious", said he would beat the 40-year-old American in a rematch by changing his training regime.

"But if we had a rematch I would correct that and beat him". I respect what he's done: 50-0.

'If I had another go with him... If it happens, maybe it will, who knows. When I say I'm going to beat these guys, I know it. "We are now in contract negotiations and we'll see where it goes".

Conor McGregor has warned the UFC he will not return to the octagon until they give him part-ownership of the company and agree to co-promotion.

"The next one will be a UFC bout, a mixed martial arts bout, 100 per cent", he said.

It's a showdown McGregor is interested in as it "could legitimise" his lightweight belt, a title he is yet to defend after winning it in show-stopping fashion against Eddie Alvarez in 2016.

Prior to UFC 196, the last man to defeat Conor McGregor was Joe Duffy.

McGregor, who last faced Floyd Mayweather Jr.in a boxing match on August 26, revealed Tuesday in an interview with Ireland's entertainment.ie that he has plenty of options available but now is eyeing a UFC return against Tony Ferguson, who defeated Kevin Lee at UFC 216 on October 7 to win the interim UFC lightweight championship. In the end, Ferguson would be the one to claim the title of interim lightweight champion after submitting Lee via triangle choke in the third round of their main event bout at UFC 216. The former two-weight world champion reportedly felt "exploited" by McGregor's team and subsequently broke a golden rule in boxing by revealing McGregor's biggest weakness ahead of the Mayweather fight. McGregor also pointed to Tony Ferguson, Nate Diaz, Georges St Pierre, Max Holloway, and Paulie Malignaggi as potential comeback opponents in UFC.
