Panthers trade wideout Kelvin Benjamin to Bills

Ahead of Tuesday's 4 P.M. trade deadline, the Bills have acquired wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin from the Panthers.

Bills coach Sean McDermott and General Manager Brandon Beane have great familiarity with Benjamin, having previously worked for the Panthers - McDermott as defensive coordinator and Beane as assistant GM. The two worked in the Panthers organization before joining the Bills and assuming the task of fixing a franchise that appeared to be in disarray.

Benjamin has 32 catches for two touchdowns and a team-best 475 yards this season.

Watkins, of course, was shipped off to Los Angeles just before the start of the season, leaving Buffalo with arguably the worst wide receiving corps in the NFL.

Benjamin returned last season and had 63 receptions for 941 yards and seven touchdowns.

Benjamin joins plenty of former Panthers up in Buffalo. He missed the 2015 season after tearing his ACL prior to the regular season. At the moment, Jordan Matthews is their leading wide receiver with just 15 catches for 193 yards on the year.

The Bills visit the Jets in a divisional match up on Thursday night. Adding Benjamin to an offence that features running back LeSean McCoy and tight end Charles Clay makes the playoffs a strong possibility for Buffalo.

For the Panthers, they will now rely on younger pass-catchers in Devin Funchess and Curtis Samuel to get the job done.
