Russian 14 Yr Old Model, Making $8 A Day, Dies In China

Modelling scandal young girl dies in China after 13 hour fashion show with no medical insurance

A 14-year-old Russian teen model collapsed from exhaustion during a 13-hour fashion show in Shanghai, China.

Russian media has accused the Chinese agency of recruiting Vlada on a "slave labor" contract without medical insurance.

Dzyuba's mother - who also has a young baby - bought a visa to be with her daughter but could not get it before she died. "She had regular breaks during work", he assured the daily.

Some reports indicate Dzyuba experienced a spike in her body temperature prior to the ill-fated fashion show.

ESEE signed a contract with Smirnoff Models, a peer agency in Saint Petersburg, earlier this year to have Dzyuba working in Shanghai for three months from August 20.

Instead, he said that this was typically done by the Russian modeling agency which had originally recruited her.

Official newspaper The Global Times reported she died of "multiple organ dysfunction syndrome", citing medical records, but it is understood tests are still being conducted. Her condition did not improve and, at about 6 pm that evening, agency staff took her to the Ruijin hospital in Huangpu District.

"I didn't sleep myself and was calling her constantly, begging her to go to hospital", she added.

"We feel sorry that we lost an angel", ESEE Model Management said in an online statement, pointing out that Shanghai Fashion Week ended on October 18 and that the girl had fallen ill six days later while on another assignment. These models are made to work lomg hours and are not provided good working conditions. Although she was taken to a Shanghai hospital, she died on Friday. It is unclear what role he played in seeking medical care for the model when she needed it.

'It must have been the very beginning of the illness. and then her temperature shot up.

In its report, the Siberian Times quotes Vlada's mother, Oksana, telling Russian television channel NTV that her daughter had called her last week from the show, saying: "Mama, I am so exhausted".

'They treat young models with great care there.

Also, Kremlin human rights ombudsman in Perm, Pavel Mikov, will investigate the Vlada's death.

Dzyuba's Russian manager Dmitry Smirnov, who negotiated her Chinese assignment, has not commented on her death.
