Winx makes history with third Cox Plate victory in Australia

Chris and Stephanie Waller have come along way since going to the same school at Foxton

"I was born the year that Kingston Town (the other three-time victor of the Cox Plate) won his first Cox Plate and to think that she has emulated the great ... trying to compare one horse to another, they are always different animals at the end of the day, but we are in the presence of greatness".

"I'm lost for words, she's just made history", Bowman said.

"I have had an incredible career and Winx delivered me my first major Group 1 in this exact race three years ago, and she has now delivered me with my only other two".

"We are in the presence of greatness and she will be recognised as one of the greatest horses to have graced the Australian turf". "She would give the race the X-factor and we've spoken to the owners so they can think about it".

"She hasn't beaten his record, and equalling it I think is a great thing".

Trainer Chris Waller had labelled the race as Winx's "Grand Final" and she delivered in front of a sold-out Moonee Valley crowd that hung on her every stride. Seven horses signed up to race her with Humidor, the 13-1 shot domestically, her toughest challenger.

The nine-year-old cemented a place in his fourth Melbourne Cup with victory in the Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) over his stablemate Libran who also heads to Flemington. We are are just going through the motions at the moment.

He will aim for another with Humidor who ran fifth in last week's Caulfield Cup and backed up because the trainer was unhappy with how he was ridden.

Starting a prohibitive favourite at $1.15 Winx held off Humidor to win by a long neck with Godolphin's English-trained Folkswood third.

"Fortunately we got the upper hand and yeah, well done to the connections of all runners".

"She's in fantastic form", he said. I've been one of the many people up in the stand admiring this race and admiring the history of this race and Australian sport, so it's very humbling to be on the other side looking at everybody.

Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club have also pitched the idea of Winx racing in next year's The Everest - Waller holds a slot in the $10million race - as the pursuit to host global racing's most marketable asset heats up.

"She's an animal that we love and horses come first in this sport".
