Google no longer lets you change domains to search different countries

Services like Gmail and YouTube have already worked like this, Google notes, adding that the change is now live for both desktop and mobile searches, along with Google Maps and Google's iOS app. The search giant however, says that this will bring more localised and useful results to users.

With this new Google Search and Maps update, the company is expecting that all users' experience with the services will be much improved. The feature seems to be tailored most toward travelers: Google says that if you visit another country, it'll automatically serve results local to where you're visiting, then switch back again as soon as you arrive home. For instance, it's Google.co.in for India and Google.co.uk for the United Kingdom.

Google is going to make a big change that would restrict the search results of users to their specific location. For example, residents of Russia if in the address bar of a search engine write google domain Japan.co.jp, it would still appear the Russian website and news. Historically, these services have been labeled and accessed via country code top level domain names (ccTLD) such as [google.ng for Nigeria] or [google.com.br for Brazil]. Previously, the results you received for an worldwide search were based on the country code selected. Your choice will appear at the bottom of the page. While the default option has usually forced you to the local search site - enter google.com and you get redirected to google.com.au - it has been possible to push Google to other locations. The search results will correspond to your location. Simply go to Settings and look for the drop-down menu marked "Regions for Search Results" to set the location you want.
