Black Caps v India, third and final ODI

Dinesh Karthik's unbeaten 64 eases India to victory in Pune

The teams are tied 1-1 and both sides have gone in with an unchanged playing eleven.

Chasing 338 for victory, New Zealand faltered in their chase to end on 331-7 despite a gritty 52-ball 65 by Tom Latham, who was run out in the 48th over.

Here are the reasons why India managed to clinch the match and eventually the series.

Munro put together a crucial 109-run partnership for the second wicket with skipper Kane Williamson, who made 64, as the pair took the attack to the opposition bowlers.

The boundary riders were exceptional under pressure and kept their cool when running after the ball.

New Zealand capitulated for 79, leaving any alarm-jolted fans at home with barely time to put the kettle on or drop the handle on the toaster before the game was over.

Colin Munro, Tom Latham, and Ross Taylor all looked in great touch but they were not able to carry on and get their team across the line.

New Zealand were 63 for two chasing 270 in the 15th over - but 16 runs, eight wickets and 51 balls later, the match was complete.

He got brilliant drift and was perhaps the only spinner who extracted turn from the surface and this helped him keep the lid on the Kiwis. They notched up a partnership of 230 for the second wicket and effectively batted New Zealand out of the series.

Meanwhile, India has crossed the 300-run mark with Rohit Sharma having been snared by Santner for 147. They will get a chance to better that effort at Green Park stadium in the deciding ODI.

But it was the superb death bowling show by Bumrah that stood out in the big-scoring game.

India reached 337 for six in their allotted 50 overs after the Kiwis won the toss and elected to field first at Kanpur in the series decider on Sunday.
