IV Sasi's dream project Burning Wells will not be left behind!

Acclaimed Malayalam film director IV Sasi died in Chennai on Tuesday. He officially started working as a director in 1975 with the film Utsavam.

Born in 1948, IV Sasi began his career as an art director with "Kaliyalla Kalyanam" in 1968. His most noted films so far include Alkoottathil Thaniye, Kanamarayathu, Aksharangal and Vadakaykkoru Hrudayam. In the vacuum left by Jayan's untimely death in late 1980, while most of the other directors persisted with Sukumaran and Soman, Sasi chose to give opportunities to the next generation of actors including Mammootty, Ratheesh and Mohanlal.

He went on to marry Seema, who starred in several of his memorable films.

IV Sasi brought a change in the South film industry by introducing realistic films to move away from mainstream commercial films. He is best known for establishing Mammooty and Mohanlal in the industry and has films like Devasuram, Mrigaya, Aavanazhi, AalkoottathilThaniye and AvaludeRavukal. It would take a gap of 11 years before the superstars joined hands again (Harikrishnans, 1998) if one were to not count Mammootty playing himself in an extended special appearance in Mohanlal-starrer No. 20 Madras Mail (1990). The upcoming movie will be made in English to cater the global audience, while it will be dubbed in multiple languages including Hindi, Portuguese, Italian, French, Russian, Arabic, German, Greek, Spanish and Nigerian, among others. It is not just in Malayalam cinema that IV Sasi made a mark. She wrote she has worked with this dynamic director. Though his name was not mentioned in the credits, the film turned out to be a huge success.

He made Hindi films, too, such as Patita, Karishma, and Ankhon Ki Rishta. In a career spanning four-decades, I.V. Sasi has directed more than 150 films including Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi films.
