Damon, Clooney speak out against Weinstein

Matt Damon says despite knowing about Harvey Weinstein being a "womanizer", he did not think the level of "sexual predation", was going on, Damon told Good Morning America on Monday.

While promoting their new movie, "Suburbicon", Damon has stated that he was never fond of Weinstein but he didn't know that he could responsible for such horrendous acts.

Damon, who plays the lead in Clooney's latest directorial effort, said he heard about Weinstein's sexual harassment habit from a secondary source.

"This isn't a Hollywood problem, this exists in all kinds of other arenas we all know and we've all seen", he said.

"I didn't really think that they were going to have affairs with Harvey, quite honestly", Clooney said.

Since allegations first surfaced in the Times, over 40 women - including actresses Lupita Nyong'o, Lea Seydoux and Sean Young - have accused Weinstein of harassment and assault.

"When people say like, 'Everybody knew, ' like, yeah, I knew he was an asshole", Damon told Michael Strahan in the video interview (watch it below).

'I wanted it to be entertaining, wanted it to be fun... and if along the way people want to talk about it great, that's what you hope for'. Damon explained that he worked with Weinstein in the 1990s at the height of his power, and it was quickly clear to him that Weinstein was a bit of a bully but that this was the extent of his knowledge about the producer's behavior. "But I knew that [Weinstein and Paltrow] had come to whatever agreement or understanding they had come to".

"I want to know who took women up to a hotel room and then left them there for Harvey".

Damon added that he never bore witness to any misconduct on Weinstein's part because the disgraced mogul "didn't do it out in the open".

Weinstein has acknowledged inappropriate behavior, but has denied any allegations of non-consensual sex. "I was petrified", she told the newspaper.

"I thought you were my Uncle Harvey", Paltrow, who was 22 at the time, remembers thinking afterward.

The actor's comments come after he and fellow actor Matt Damon maintained they had no idea of the 65-year-old's actions in Tinseltown, and called their former colleague a "bully".

The fallout of Harvey Weinstein continues to make headlines as more A-listers speak about the character of Weinstein and how the industry has maintained to keep this silenced over the years. I want to know all of it.

"People who worked for him were, like, "I'm coming to make good movies".
