Yes, that's right - in a picture posted from his official Instagram account, Stallone declared that he'd be directing Creed 2 himself, with Michael B. Jordan returning as Adonis Creed.

Ryan Coogler will not return to direct the follow-up to 2015's lauded Rocky sequel Creed, but his replacement certainly knows what he's doing.

In 2015, Coogler picked up a script by Aaron Covington and sought permission from Stallone to continue Rocky's legacy, this time focusing on the son of his former foe Apollo Creed. Previous discussions for the next installment had the story potentially mirror Rocky IV, or even take a page from The Godfather Part II playbook and feature recurring flashbacks to Apollo Creed before his death. "One more Round!" said Stallone in the Instagram post. "There's a lot there." . "2018 #Creed 2 #mgm #fitness #Rocky (sic)". Creed was a commercial and critical success, earning Stallone raves for his more nuanced performance as the aging ex-fighter. He announced that Creed 2 would begin shooting next year.

Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan are ready to get back in the ring. It also garnered Stallone his first Oscar nod since 1976, when he was nominated for Best Actor and Best Screenplay for his roles on Rocky.

Creed impressed critics and performed beyond expectations, grossing $173 million worldwide.

Coogler went on to helm the upcoming Black Panther, in which Jordan also appears, and will work with him again in the in-development drama Wrong Answer.
