Police officers stand in the road outside the Natural History Museum, after a auto mounted the pavement injuring a number of pedestrians, police said, in London, Britain October 7, 2017.

"It is a road traffic collision".

London's "museum row" was open for business as usual Sunday, with the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum operating as usual one day after pandemonium broke out after a auto struck pedestrians.

Most of those hurt were treated for leg and head injuries.

No one is believed to have life-threatening or life-changing injuries.

One person has been detained by Scotland Yard following the incident in Exhibition Road in South Kensington. Police had said previously that the factor for this incident was under investigation.

Police have put the area on lockdown.

Crowds in the area, which is also home to the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Science Museum, fled screaming in panic, an AFP reporter said.

Britain is on its second-highest security alert level, meaning that an attack by militants is considered highly likely.

"For Londoners and visitors planning to visit our excellent museums and attractions in the area, please be assured they will be open as usual tomorrow".

He was pinned to the ground by police in front of stunned tourists shortly after 2.20pm.

The Metropolitan Police in a statement said he was taken into custody following the incident on Exhibition Road in Southern Kensington and was later arrested.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May was being updated on the incident, her office informed.

The Metropolitan Police said it was not "terrorist-related" and is appealing for witnesses.

The Ambulance Service also immediately responded to the call.

The Natural History Museum in a tweet confirmed the "serious" incident and said they are working with the police to get the situation in control.

In June, three ISIS terrorists drove a hired van into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing people in nearby Borough Market.
