BSF Camp Near Srinagar Airport Attacked

Local media say that all the roads going towards Srinagar airport have been sealed

All these things will keep happening, as long as Pakistan is our neighbour.

Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has claimed responsibility for the attack while authorities have closed all educational institutions in the area for security reasons. Police suspect these four terrorists might have sneaked into Srinagar city.

Terrorists carried out a suicide attack on Tuesday on a Border Security Force (BSF) camp near Srinagar International airport, in Jammu and Kashmir. In this incident, three jawans have been injured and one fidayeen killed in retaliatory firing.

On 26th of August, fidayeen militants stormed the District Police Lines in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. He went missing from his residence after being released. The airport is managed by the Indian Air Force and also doubles as a military base with many attack helicopters based there.

Terming the BSF's response to the fidayeen attack as highly professional, Sharma said, "The moment the militants entered the BSF camp at around 4.10 am, they were spotted and challenged by the alert sentry".

A team led by a CRPF officer entered the building and shot down the third terrorist, bringing to an end an hours-long operation that averted significant casualties.

However, during first contact, BSF troops eliminated one terrorist forcing the remaining forces to move towards two different buildings, including an empty administrative building. A BSF officer whom police identified as S.K Yadav succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has called for a high-level security meeting in New Delhi later on Tuesday to discuss the overall security situation.

The operation to flush out terrorists was carried out by BSF, CRPF and state police. "It's a good operation that they have conducted".

This is the first militant attack in almost 30 years so close to the airport.

"The idea was not to attack the airport but to attack the forces". Following the attack, all the morning flights were cancelled, and airports were sealed till security clearance.
