Xiaomi Mi 7 may support wireless charging

Pi co-founders Lixin Shi left and John Mac Donald tout their invention as the world's first wireless charger that does away wit

"Link difference", "This charges everything", and the not-quite-consistent but punny "Apple juice" all seek to lure new couples to Ikea's selection of wireless charging furniture so whoever doesn't get the VARV charging lamp in the breakup will have to buy another one. It's possible that some consumers are holding out for the iPhone X, while others may have preordered the phone and had it delivered to their doorsteps. Fine-tuned with Qi technology, the new Boost↑Up Wireless Charging Pad for the upcoming iPhones charges at up to 7.5W for compatible devices. Just like Apple iPhones, the recent Samsung Galaxy S8 also features glass back to allow wireless charging. It retails for $329 and up. A number of major smartphone players have begun offering wireless charging for their high-end devices.

Xiaomi hasn't made an official announcement yet, but the company is now listed as a member on the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) website, as first spotted by GSM Arena. The 2017 iPhone models all support wireless charging for the first time, and apparently the next Xiaomi flagship model will too.

If the Mi 7 will indeed arrive next year with Qi wireless charging, it's likely that it may a have glass back rather than metal. This might make the Mi 7 a bit more fragile, but it seems to be a necessary design change to accommodate the feature. Like wireless charging in general, many of these products have existed in Ikea's inventory for years. One rumor claimed it would come with a $69 United States price tag, matching the replacement cost of the current AirPods case sans wireless charging capability.
