Maugerville power company helps restore service in Irma-hit Florida

"If you are one of that 75,000, we want you to know that we hear you and we are working as hard and as safely and as quickly as we can to get you back up and running", said Meredith Stone with Georgia Power corporate communications in a statement.

An electrical worker repairs stop lights the morning after Hurricane Irma swept through Naples, Fla., on September 11, 2017.

Georgia Power now estimates that 95 percent of all customers impacted by Hurricane Irma, who can accept power, will have power restored by Saturday night - approximately 24 hours ahead of schedule.

Most of the remaining outages were in Florida Power & Light's service area in the southern parts of the state.

The biggest challenge was clearing debris after huge trees toppled onto power lines, creating a challenging situation for crews going neighborhood to neighborhood.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday in Broward County, 3,600 were reporting outages, of 933,300 accounts, and Palm Beach County was essentially restored, with just 60 outages, according to FPL. "Thank you for your patience", FPL vice president Robert Gould said Friday afternoon during a news conference in Melbourne.

The deaths at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills stirred outrage at what many saw as a preventable tragedy, and heightened concerns about the vulnerability of the state's large elderly population amid widespread, lingering power outages. On Sept. 11, when most customers were without power, the storm weakened to a tropical depression.

About 300,000 customers remain without power, according to a September 17 statement.

The company is on target to restore power to all by Wednesday, McDermitt said, except in areas with flooding or extensive wind damage.

FPL also said power would be restored by Friday.

85 percent of restoration is complete in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, DeSoto, Hendry, Lee and Glades counties.

FPL has established walk-up sites for our customers in several communities.

In an update from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, insurance companies have received 372,281 claims for an estimated $2.1 billion in Irma-related damage. Other people in the county lost everything.

"Our customers are angry and frustrated that we could not provide them better information".
