Netflix's "Narcos" Location Scout Shot, Killed In Mexico

Netflix

The upcoming season of "Narcos" was set to film in Mexico, exploring the origins of the infamous Juarez cartel, as opposed to Columbia, where the previous seasons were shot. The Hollywood Reporter states that Munoz was murdered on Monday, September 11 in a rural area of the country, outside Mexico City.

The murder has raised doubts on whether the production will continue in Mexico or move back to Colombia where the show was originally shot. The first two seasons of the show looked at the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, the leader of the Cartel de Medellin.

The network added that circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear.

His vehicle was found in the San Bartolo Actopan area.

Portal was reportedly heading out to obtain some production photographs. The site is located to the northeast of the State of Mexico, very close to the border with Hidalgo.

The Spanish daily reported that there are no witnesses and that a friend of the victim thinks it's possible that "the presence of a foreigner with a camera was uncomfortable for the inhabitants, frightened by the insecurity of the region".

Carlos has been working as a location scout for over a decade and has assisted on projects such as Spectre, Sicario, and Fast & Furious.

Netflix has since issued a statement paying their respects to Munoa and his family.
