Knife-wielding man 'attacks' soldier in Paris

BREAKING: Knifeman 'shouting Allah' attacks soldier at Paris train station near Notre Dame

The attacker lunged at the soldier at the central Chatelet metro station around 6.30 am (0430 GMT), making reference to Allah, a police source said.

On August 9 six soldiers on patrol in the ongoing anti-terror operation dubbed Operation Sentinelle in the Paris suburb of Levallois were injured, two seriously, when a auto deliberately rammed into them.

The suspect, said to be shouting Islamic State slogans, attacked a French soldier carrying out anti-terrorism duties in the French captial this morning. In August, a man rammed his auto into a group of soldiers near Paris, injuring six of them. One officer was hit in the head with the hammer, prompting police to fire at the attacker. The suspect was arrested hours after the incident on a motorway in northern France. Defense Minister Florence Parly said on Europe-1 radio that the attack confirms government strategy to make the force "more unpredictable. for potential attackers".

The incident came with France still on high alert following a string of terror attacks which began in January 2015 when jihadist gunmen stormed the offices of satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, killing 12.

French police have one terrorism suspect in custody and are on a manhunt for another terror suspect after two separate terror attacks today.
