Being a New Yorker … I was like, the eclipse? Really?

Honeymoon plane request was about national security – Mnuchin

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said that he never used government resources for personal travel. "That's just slap your forehead stuff". The agency's Office of Inspector General confirmed Thursday that it is also looking into a trip Mnuchin and his wife took to Kentucky last month on an Air Force plane.

He was at it again on Thursday when, in a conversation with Politico's Ben White, he took himself out of the frying pan and jumped right into the fire when trying to knock down reports that he had used a government plane to fly to Kentucky to see the solar eclipse.

Mnuchin defended that decision on Thursday, arguing the reason he even broached the idea was because he wanted to ensure he had a secure communications channel if he was needed while on vacation.

Mnuchin said he spends "probably over 50 percent" of his time on national security issues and sanctions nearly daily.

"Let me be clear: I'm very sensitive to the use of government funds", Mnuchin said. "Really? I don't have any interest in watching the eclipse".

Government planes are typically reserved for Cabinet members and those with direct involvement in matter of national security, according to ABC.

In August, hundreds of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin's former Yale University classmates wrote a letter calling on him to resign. "So they put in a request to consider the use of an aircraft".

"Generally, when other federal executive agency's request use of military airlift, it is provided on a reimbursable basis pursuant to Title 31 U.S.C., section 1535 and 1536, otherwise known as the 'Economy Act, '" Stump said.

Revelations about the request prompted a backlash, with the director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington saying Mr Mnuchin can not "be expecting taxpayers to foot the bill for a Hollywood lifestyle". A commenter snarked at her for the trip.

Linton's social media misstep featured a posted a photo boasting about her designer accessories, followed by Marie Antoinette-like attack on the online OR critic she chided as "adorably out of touch". "This was one of the things we explored". Linton went off. She said, in part: "Cute! Aw!" I'm pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day "trip" than you did. Adorable! Do you think the United States govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?!

Linton then lashed out at an Instragram user criticizing the photo, calling the commenter "out of touch" and saying she and her husband "sacrifice" more to the US government.

Trump told reporters he had "total confidence" in Mnuchin.
