North Korea resuming work at nuke test site

38 NORTHAnalysts believe Kim Jong Un may be planning a new nuclear test

On Wednesday, officials from North Korea's Foreign Ministry responded to a new list of sanctions from the U.N. Security Council, saying that they were committed to pursuing the program, "at a faster pace without the slightest diversion", the New York Times reported.

"The four islands of the (Japanese) archipelago should be sunken into the sea by the nuclear bomb of Juche", the committee said in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency.

Treasury Secretary Steve Munchin suggested on Wednesday that the United States is willing to cut off trade "with anyone who trades with North Korea".

Similarly, US monitor, which also keeps a tab on Pynogyang activities, said the recent nuclear test caused 6.3-magnitude natural disaster in North Korea, the tremors of which were also felt in China and Russian Federation, possibly due to a rock cave-in.

"These disturbances are more numerous and widespread than seen after any of the North's previous five tests, and include additional slippage in pre-existing landslide scars and a possible subsidence crater", the report says.

The recent nuclear test was the sixth and most powerful test North Korea has conducted since its first in 2006, demonstrating a stunning advance in the country's ability to build high-yield nuclear weapons.

In late August, North Korea launched a ballistic missile over northern Japan, in a move that the Korean Central News Agency said was part of "muscle-flexing" to protest annual military exercises being held between the USA and South Korea.

North Korea threatened on Thursday to use nuclear weapons to "sink" Japan and reduce the United States to "ashes and darkness" for supporting the UN resolution and sanctions over its latest nuclear test. But the detected xenon-133 is a radioactive isotope that does not occur naturally and which has been linked to North Korea's nuclear tests in the past.

The expert expressed doubt about reining in North Korea's trajectory in achieving its military goal, adding the use of any "military force" would send the peninsula into war.

India and Japan today condemned North Korea's nuclear programme as a grave threat to global peace and stressed on holding accountable all parties supporting the reclusive nation's nuclear ambitions, in a veiled reference to Pakistan.

Banning Chinese companies, and other entities from third party countries that do business with North Korea, from the USA financial system could cause real economic pain for all involved, but may be the only way make sanctions effective.
