On Sunday, Sitharaman had reportedly described the CAG report as "factually wrong" and asserted that the defence forces did not have any dearth of ammunition.

"A question was asked to me on Sunday in Barmer as to whether the Indian Army faces shortage of ammunition". "The project is considered essential towards promoting ocean sailing activities in the Navy while depicting Government of India's thrust for "Nari Shakti", a Defence ministry statement said.

Speaking later at an event organised by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ms. Sitharaman said it was a privilege to hand over indigenous products on her first engagement. "Since it is a continuous process, there shouldn't be any discussion which is devoid of facts", Sitharaman told reporters in Gandhinagar on Monday.

"Not even once did I talk about the CAG report". "I am privileged to go to Sir Creek as a defence minister", she said.

She talked about special deployment to strengthen the security arrangements at Uttarlai.Sitharaman is the first defence minister to visit the sensitive airbase in 16 years, after George Fernandes in 2001.

The CAG report also said that with proper budgetary support the shortfall in ammunition could be overcome by 2019.It criticised the state-run Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) for inadequate quantity of ammunition supplied to the Army since March 2013.

The Minister was presented a Guard of Honour by the Air Warriors on her arrival at the base. She was also briefed on the air base's role and nature of air operations undertaken from there.
