Gas prices drop in Meadville area

Harvey may pinch some Gulf Coast refining chemical projects

The national average for a gallon of gas Monday was above $2.66, and both metro Albany and Georgia, which usually have prices below the USA average, were well above that number.

The price of gas in MA has not changed this week.

Looking at other areas in metro Detroit and northern OH, gas in Ann Arbor is up 3.9 cents to $2.68 a gallon, 11.5 cents in Flint to $2.68 a gallon and down 6.2 cents in Toledo to $2.54.

Suppliers "face an uphill battle in the coming days, trying to keep gas stations supplied, as Florida evacuees return home in large numbers after the storm", the release said.

Average retail gasoline prices in Wyoming have not moved in the past week, averaging $2.53/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 494 gas outlets in Wyoming.

Wholesale gasoline declined a cent to $1.65 a gallon. The cheapest Georgia metro area on the survey was Augusta at $2.655. Since last month, the Albany average has risen 64.6 cents, and motorists were paying 75.5 cents more per gallon than a year ago. The average price a year ago at this time in MA was $2.10.

The national average Sunday was up 30.4 cents from a month earlier and 48.1 cents from a year ago.

DeHaan said reduced demand should help alleviate pain at the pump.

"As refineries slowly come back online, states along the East Coast can expect gas prices to remain volatile as a result of already tight supply levels stemming from Harvey, combined with the yet-to-be-known impact of Hurricane Irma", said AAA spokeswoman Jeanette Casselano.

Gas prices usually begin to go down around Labor Day, as the summer driving season comes to an end.
