Iran's Rouhani leaves for OIC Science and Technology Summit in Astana

Rouhani: Iran, Turkey Relations in New Phase

"We express our concern over the recent conflict in Myanmar, we call upon all parties to immediately stop violence and start a dialogue within the United Nations", the Head of State said at a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Science and Technology in Astana.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation or OIC will host the summit at the Palace of Independence in Astana on Sept 10-11.

Kazakj Minister of Education and Science Yerlan Sagadiyev Yerlan Sagadiyev welcomed the participants, affirming that holding the OIC S&T Summit in Astana is proof of the priority OIC member states grant to science, technology and innovation.

The president's entourage includes officials from the Office of the President, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Science and Technology.

The occasion "will provide opportunities to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and worldwide issues of mutual interest", the handout said.

The session is expected to take a unified Islamic position with regard to the persecution and gross human rights violations being perpetrated against these hapless people amid a surge in influx of displaced Rohingyas to the neighboring Bangladesh, Saudi Gazette from Jeddah reports quoting OIC sources.

The photo shows a general view of the first Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit on science and technology in Astana, Kazakhstan, September 10, 2017.

Today, he said, the Muslim world feels the need for solidarity and unity more than ever as it is grappling with multiple crises, such as Israeli crimes against the Palestinians, atrocities by Buddhist extremists against Rohingya in Myanmar, humanitarian catastrophes created by extremist groups in Syria and Iraq and the continuation of the Saudi war on Yemen.
