A strike called by an alliance of key separatist leaders against the minister's visit disrupted normal life in the Valley.

A policeman was killed today in a terrorist attack that took place in Srinagar's Anantnag, just 500 yards away from the venue of a meeting that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to attend tomorrow. "I don't have words to praise your bravery. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised your courage".

While addressing CRPF personnel in the same district, the Home Minister said, "We are proud of our CRPF personnel".

He said also that he was upset to see daughter of deceased J-K police personnel, Zohra, crying. "Courage can not be purchased from any market and you are born with unassailable and unmatched courage", he said. You are born with unassailable and unmatched courage. "Orders have been issued for bullet proof vehicles and for bullet jackets at all police stations in Jammu and Kashmir", said Singh.

He later reviewed the status of implementation of the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) for Jammu & Kashmir with the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Kumar Singh, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Chief Secretary BB Vyas and senior officers of the Home Ministry and the State Government. Developmental works were in progress, employment avenues were there, terrorism was nearly wiped out from the state, he said and added, "We wanted to have assessment of the situation during PDP-BJP coalition government and wanted to know from the people what they have lost and what they gained".

Rajnath Singh says that he is ready to talk to everyone.

Later in the evening, an encounter erupted in Imam Sahib area of Shopian district late in the evening. Mr Singh's visit to Jammu and Kashmir comes amid indications that there are a few fresh and innovative ideas up his sleeves vis-a-vis to work towards resolution of Kashmir problem.

The news agency ANI said two others were injured after terrorists attacked a group of policemen at a bus stand.

Heavy security was deployed in the areas under restriction.

The home minister complimented the security forces for their successes against militants in the state over the past few months, and urged them to maintain their guard, he said.

"(But) the cops and CRPF jawans want to make Kashmir real heaven", he said in chaste hindi. I saw her face drenched with tears.

This year, shortly before starting his trip, Rajnath had said he was going to Kashmir with an open mind.

The home minister also had meeting with leaders and representatives of various political, social and trade organisations to know their views on the issues confronting the state.
