3 things we learned from win over Nebraska

Loren Elliott | Times

Nebraska cuts the OR lead to 42-35 with just under three minutes to play.

Lee finished 19-of-41 on the day as Nebraska was forced to go to the air after finding itself down by two touchdowns early and trailing 42-14 at halftime.

Taggart still managed to wear a 2-0 smile after Jim Leavitt's defense did the heavy lifting down the stretch to deliver Oregon's 42-35 victory over the Cornhuskers in front of a blended red and yellow crowd of 58,389 on Saturday at Autzen Stadium.

On first down from his own 43-yard line, Lee dropped and looked to his right, but his throw fluttered when his arm was hit by a blitzing OR linebacker. The Huskers haven't lost to the Ducks since - but all of the meetings were in Lincoln. Herbert threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns with only one interception.

· Junior I-back Mikale Wilbon scored on a two-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 42-35 with 2:47 remaining in the game. Freeman had a 28-yard run in the drive. Charles Nelson had 117 yards receiving.

The Ducks are also concerned about the Husker offense. The senior carried the ball 11 times for 61 yards and two touchdowns.

The Nebraska offense cooled off after their second scoring drive of the half however, and failed to score on their next four possessions.

Nebraska then put together a 10-play, 95-yard drive to answer the Ducks. The Ducks took their foot of the gas and allowed the Huskers to score 21 unanswered points in the second half, making things very close in the final minutes. Nebraska's defense tightened up.

That's when OR went on its run.

They were, however, far quieter at halftime as the Huskers trudged to the locker room trailing 42-14. "He wants us to have fun", said running back Royce Freeman.

Through six quarters this season, Herbert completed 38 of 46 passes (82.6 percent) for 594 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

A week after giving up almost 500 yards to Arkansas State, the Huskers were torched right out of the gates to the tune of 400 first half yards and a 42-14 halftime time deficit.

The Huskers got a big break when they recovered a fumble deep in OR territory, and running back Mikale Wilbon capped it off with a three-yard touchdown to make it 42-35 with 2:47 to go. Bryant is the first Husker to post back-to-back 100-yard rushing games to open a season since Ameer Abdullah topped 100 yards in the first two games in 2013. On fourth-and-10, Morgan gained 22 yards on a catch-and-run, and then hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass on the next play.

And they have the running backs to do it on the ground.

On the fifth offensive play of the game, OR quarterback Justin Herbert hit Brenden Schooler for this really nice grab.

OR turned both turnovers into points. OR picked off quarterback Tanner Lee for the fourth time, though, and walked away with a 42-35 victory.

It was all Ducks in that first half.

Update: (6:53 p.m.): Freeman coughs the ball up at Oregon's own 20 yardline and Aaron Williams recovers.

Nebraska's maligned defense, which had trouble slowing down Arkansas State, blanked the Ducks in the second half.

Nebraska forces a fumble with 4:56 left in the game.

OR leads Nebraska, 7-0.

Because Oregon is wearing white, Nebraska will wear its home uniforms in Eugene.
