Apple iPhone 8 Could See Prolonged Shipping Delays Over Production Glitches

While AAPL stock was surging to new record highs after better than expected third-quarter earnings, iPhone sales were actually underperforming the global smartphone market.

The 10th anniversary of Apple's linchpin device - loosely titled the iPhone 8, although iPhone X and iPhone Pro are also in play - has run into production glitches stemming from its new OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diodescreen) screen, according to the Wall Street Journal. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus retained the megapixel count, with the larger sibling sporting two 12MP sensors for its dual rear camera setup.

Previous rumours have pointed towards the iPhone 8, or iPhone X as it may be known, going on sale on 22nd September.

Apple iPhones can never be cheap. This is as the technolgy already made its debut in Apple iPhone 7 Plus past year.

The iPhone 8, set to completely reinvent the way that the world views smartphones, is expected to have an immediate and powerful impact on the smartphone industry, and is likely to be launched next week.

The iPhone is all geared up to be unveiled next week on September 12 in a press conference taking place at Apple's new headquarters called Apple Park.

Apple's upcoming smartphone is believed to have a radical redesign that includes a new OLED screen that reaches nearly the very edges of the phone - leaving only the tiniest of bezels.

And the only company that can now make them in large numbers up to Apple's standards is also its top competitor in the smartphone market: Samsung. Compared to the latter the iPhone 8 has a taller screen.

You can direct at least some of your frustration to Apple rival and supplier Samsung, according to a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a strong track record for predicting upcoming Apple releases. Analysts suggest that Apple might go for a 3D facial recognition system instead.

The other highlights include iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus among the top devices, followed by OPPO which is emerging among the fastest growing brands globally, then there's Samsung Galaxy S8, Xiaomi's Redmi Note 4 and other Apple and Samsung phones.
