Florida State QB Deondre Francois to miss remainder of season

FSU's Deondre Francois suffers late leg injury vs Alabama; severity unknown

Francois earned ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2016, leading all freshman QBs with 3,350 yards and 20 touchdowns. He needed help off the field and didn't put weight on it.

Alabama's special teams capitalized on two Florida State mistakes but was far from ideal.

Coach Jimbo Fisher is expected to have a further update, including when Francois is expected to have surgery, during his weekly press conference Monday. Francois appeared to injure his left knee and was on crutches late in the fourth quarter.

The victory was the 16 in a row on opening day for Alabama, the last 11 under coach Nick Saban, and the Tide is 8-0 in neutral-site games in either Atlanta or Dallas.

Alabama (1-0) limited the Seminoles (0-1) to just 65 total yards in the second half, including just 16 rushing yards on 14 second-half carries and kept Florida State on its own side of the field for almost all of final 30 minutes of action.

Pappanastos kicked a 35-yard field goal on Alabama's second drive for the only scoring in the first quarter after missing from 42 yards on the first possession.

Harrison took to Twitter to offer his well wishes to Francois. "We had breakdowns. Those were critical plays in the game".

Francois, a sophomore from Orlando, Florida, had a disappointing performance against Alabama's defense, completing 19 of 33 passes for 210 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Florida State also has J.J. Cosentino on its roster.

Florida State: The Seminoles were looking to regain a bit of their swagger after back-to-back 10-3 seasons, which would be a cause for celebration at most schools but not in Tallahassee.

Florida State might have had success limiting Alabama's offense, but it couldn't stop the avalanche from coming for it eventually.

Alabama scored 10 points off special teams turnovers after Damien Harris blocked a punt and Keith Holcombe recovered a misplayed kickoff return.

Francois grabbed at his knee even as he was going down.

Last season the Seminoles lost safety Derwin James after he injured his knee in the second game against Charleston Southern.
