Sir Bruce Forsyth Has Passed Away, Aged 89

Sir Bruce Forsyth

The BBC report the incredibly popular TV presenter and entertainer had been unwell for some time after entering hospital with a severe chest infection earlier this year.

Actress and comedian Miranda Hart has vowed to pay tribute to Sir Bruce with a signature dance move when she steps onstage in the West End production of Annie hours after Sir Bruce's death.

The nation is mourning the loss of one of Britain's best loved entertainers this morning following news of Bruce Forsyth's death yesterday, aged 89.

Phillips joined a wealth of Strictly stars past and present in paying tribute to the Saturday night TV legend, who died at the age of 89 on Friday.

He added: "I've never seen anyone quite like him when it comes to performing in front of a crowd".

He'll be remembered for his charm, his career spanning more than 50 years, his catchphrases - but also for his dance moves.

A tweet from The One Show account read: "There will be no One Show this evening as @BBCOne will now be airing a special programme in memory of Bruce Forsyth".

The TV and radio host wrote: "So sad to hear of Sir Bruce's passing, ultimate pro- Mr".

He switched to ITV in the late 1970s, firstly with Bruce Forsyth's Big Night and later with the incredibly successful Play Your Cards Right (a United Kingdom remake of USA show Card Sharks). A true legend and national treasure.

Recalling his last meeting with Sir Bruce, he said: "Well, it was at the house about two or three months back, I went over and Wilnelia, who was the love of his life, said: 'I've made some sandwiches boys and a large pot of tea". During his career, he received numerous honours including being made a Knight Bachelor in the 2011 Birthday Honours for his services to entertainment and charity. "He had a remarkable chemistry with his audience", Mr Hall said.

Decades later, he experienced a career lull, then found a professional renaissance with "Strictly Come Dancing".

Thank you Sir Bruce for providing us with countless great moments over the years. He was the last of the variety hall entertainers, a master of prime-time television and the man who really brought light entertainment to screen.

Bruce is survived by his wife Lady Wilnelia Forsyth and his six children - daughters Debbie, Julie and Laura from his first marriage with Penny Calvert, Charlotte and Louisa with his second spouse Anthea Redfern and a son with Wilnelia - as well as nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
