Trump kills Manufacturing Council as CEOs pull out

Kevin Plank said he quit the White House council to focus on manufacturing not politics

Plank said his company "engages in innovation and sports, not politics".

Under Armour founder and chief executive Kevin Plank's statement was more subtle.

Tuesday morning, Trump responded to the CEOs' decisions on Twitter, saying he has many people to take their place. Also pictured is Kenneth Frazier (R) CEO of Merck & Company. In January, his ban on travel from certain Muslim-majority countries drew criticism from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Starbucks boss Howard Schultz, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, Apple's Tim Cook and many, many others.

Frazier was not the first executive to resign from advisory councils serving Trump.

That follows the wave of negative reaction to Trump's remarks regarding Charlottesville, Va., where one person was killed and 19 injured after a vehicle plowed into a group protesting a white supremacist rally over the weekend.

After eight of the more than two dozen executives left, Trump shut the initiative down altogether Wednesday in one fell tweet. In addition to Krzanich's participation in Trump's advisory committee on manufacturing, he visited the White House earlier this year, and re-announced a factory development in the United States to boost Trump's favoribility.

During the presidential campaign, Trumka called Trump "anti-American" and "a bigot".

Frazier, one of only a few black CEOs to helm a Fortune 500 company, said in a statement that Trump "must honor our fundamental views by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy".

Of his departure, Trump replied, "Now that Ken Frazier of Merck Pharma has resigned. he will have more time to lower ripoff drug prices!".

Trump kills Manufacturing Council as CEOs pull out

Mr Frazier said he was quitting in the wake of Mr Trump's initial failure to condemn the far-right for violence in Charlottesville.

The CEO of the nation's third largest pharmaceutical company is resigning from the President's American Manufacturing Council citing "a responsibility to take a stand against intolerance and extremism".

After coming under fire for not condemning white nationalists and neo-Nazis in Charlottesville on Saturday - and only doing so after public pressure on Monday - he then blamed what he termed "alt-left" counter-protestors for the violence during a press conference on Tuesday.

Frazier is concerned Trump is going to end some of the policy favors that Obama gave drug companies via Obamacare, such as blocking drug imports and not having to negotiate drug prices with the government.

He added: "You can be sure we will charge and advance the investigation towards the most serious charges that can be brought, because this is an unequivocally unacceptable and evil attack that cannot be accepted in America". "I hope this will change, and I remain willing to serve when it does".

Dell Technologies said that its chief executive, Michael Dell, would remain on the White House manufacturing advisory council. "Though I think he pulled himself off, I think he said 'look I gotta be true to myself, I gotta be true to the company, gotta be true to my customers'".

Tesla founder Elon Musk left the manufacturing council and another presidential advisory group in June, citing his disagreement with Trump's decision to withdraw the USA from the Paris climate accord.

A White House official downplayed the importance of the manufacturing council and a separate policy and strategy forum featuring corporate leaders.
