Democrats drafting articles of impeachment against Trump

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) revealed Thursday morning that he plans to introduce articles of impeachment against Trump on account of his recent comments on violent protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, where white nationalists, racists, and neo-Nazis took to the streets chanting, "Jews will not replace us", and "blood and soil".

Still, while criticism of the president over his Charlottesville response has poured out from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, any resolution to impeach Trump would need support from the House's Republican majority to move forward.

The president said there were "very fine people" on both sides of the protests.

"None of the marchers spewing such verbiage could be considered "very fine people" as the President suggested", Cohen said.

He says that it is proof that Trump is unable to identify domestic terrorists and is also intellectually incapable of leading the country. "There are no good Klansmen", Cohen said.

"President Trump has failed the presidential test of moral leadership", Cohen said, arguing that Trump "has shown time and time again that he lacks the ethical and moral rectitude to be President of the United States".

The legislation is likely dead on arrival in Washington with Republican majorities in the House and Senate, but Rep. Cohen said it still symbolizes a vote of no confidence.

To close his statement, Congressman Cohen said, "It is morally and legally incumbent upon me, based on my oath of office, to introduce articles of impeachment". California Rep. Brad Sherman and Texas Rep. Al Green filed their own in May, citing Trump's decision to fire former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey and charging Trump with obstruction of justice.

As Trump's approval ratings hit some of the lowest numbers he's seen so far in his seven-month presidency, public support for his impeachment is growing. That comes as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee is trolling his Republican National Committee counterpart, asking her to hold Trump accountable or risk becoming the party "that surrendered to a man who empowered neo-Nazis".

Democrats had already called for Trump's impeachment after he fired FBI Director James Comey amid a deepening probe of the Trump team's ties to Russian Federation.

Cohen is the third member of the House to file articles of impeachment.
