Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott, NFLPA Officially Appeal Six-Game Suspension

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott walks on the field prior to the Pro Football Hall of Fame NFL preseason game in Canton Ohio Thursday Aug. 3 2017

Elliott is appealing his suspension and some think it'll get reduced to four games, meaning he'll miss 25 percent of the season (roughly 30 percent of most fantasy leagues). Goodell ultimately opted not to surrender the outcome to someone who would have been handling the case as a one-and-done project.

It's uncertain what role the Dallas Cowboys franchise owner Jerry Jones will play in the appeal.

Henderson will now be tasked with determining if the league's ruling and subsequent punishment were justified.

Based on the latest to come out from the case, Elliott certainly will be able to have ammunition against her character.

Except for the alleged racial statement, the claims made Monday about Thompson are already part of the record of the investigation by the City Attorney's Office in Columbus, Ohio.

Elliott's appeal must be held within ten days from Tuesday's filing.

The newspaper also reports that Elliott's appeal will include text messages from Thompson where she allegedly urges a friend to lie to cops about the running back putting his hands on her.

The NFL said in a statement Wednesday that it would be a "shameful" tactic to try to try to prove a defendant's innocence by discrediting an accuser. "Efforts to shame and blame victims are often what prevents people from coming forward to report violence and/or seek help in the first place". "You will see. If I was you, I wouldn't go out tonight".

Elliott's appeal will focus on the credibility of his ex-girlfriend, Tiffany Thompson, according to sources close to the rusher.

Thompson, who used to date Ezekiel Elliott, was also quoted as saying, "I'm going to ruin your life". If the suspension is upheld, Elliott would be barred from taking part in any team activities starting on September 2 nor play until Week 8 against the Washington Redskins. Elliott will forfeit $559,192 in 2017 salary, according to salary cap website Spotrac. In his rookie year, Elliott rushed for 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns en route to earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2016.
