Trump's threat to Korea sparks safe-haven rush

Trump threatens North Korea after nuclear revelation

Pyongyang said it was examining plans for attacking Guam, a US territory in the Pacific with a military base.

The public is split on whether the United States should take military action in response to the country's recent weapons testing and development, and partisan divisions emerge on questions about how the USA should respond.

The KCNA report said that a strike on Guam would be aimed at containing U.S. military bases on the Pacific island.

US Andersen Air Force Base on Guam hosts the nuclear-capable B-1B strategic bombers, which were sent back by the US to the Korean peninsula on Tuesday, according to Yonhap news agency, citing South Korean military sources.

President Donald Trump says that North Korea "had best not make any more threats to the United States" or "they will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen".

Trump's threat reverberated around the world, sparking a sell-off and prompting a wave of criticism even from members of his own political party.

McCain says he takes exception to Trump's comments "because you got to be sure you can do what you say you're going to do".

The milestone comes as global alarm continues to mount over the accelerating pace of North Korea's weapons program, with Japan calling recent steps a "new level of threat".

The comments follow reports that the North has mastered a technology needed to strike the United States with a nuclear missile.

The Post story, citing unnamed USA intelligence officials, went further. Those sanctions came on the heels of two intercontinental ballistic missile tests North Korea carried out in July. He also has hardened his stance against China and that country's need to exert its influence over North Korea - a view that came after Trump spent the first few months of his tenure in the White House playing a sort of "good cop" role in terms of China and North Korea.

Late last month, North Korea proved its missile capabilities have reached a point where US cities are within "target range".

"China has other regional crises as well, the border dispute with India, the South China Sea.it's really bad timing for another real crisis to emerge in North Korea", Zhao said.

While Trump's claim that the USA arsenal is more powerful than ever is true, that process began before he took office.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says North Korea is reckless, provocative, unsafe and a threat to peace.

North Korea is technically closer to Alaska, but Hawaiians are increasingly concerned about a possible attack from North Korea.

Experts worry Trump's rhetoric could hurt the USA by feeding North Korean insecurities and adding instability to an already tenuous situation.

"It's one thing to make a mistake intentionally, its another thing to stumble into a conflict. either one - Kim Jong Un or Donald Trump - could miscalculate and let loose a war unlike anything we have seen since World War II".

North Korea's latest threat to target Guam prompted this reaction overnight from the island's governor.

He added that the United States "routinely uses" Aegis-equipped warships around the island chain of the Marianas, of which Guam is the largest.

Guam hosts various types of high-profile USA military weapon systems, including B-1B and B-52 strategic bombers, as well as the THAAD missile defense system.

The Korean War started in 1950.
