Germany Urges 'Restraint' from North Korea, US

Pyongyang said it's "now carefully examining the operational plan for making an enveloping fire at the areas around Guam with medium-to-long-range strategic ballistic rocket Hwasong-12". It said the Defence Intelligence Agency analysis, completed last month, assessed North Korea has produced nuclear weapons for ballistic missile delivery, including by intercontinental missiles. The White House has not detailed any findings from that evaluation.

"Guam is American soil".

Hertling said much of what the USA would need may not even be stationed in the U.S., but deployed in current military campaigns against ISIS in the Middle East or the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says he doesn't believe there is "any imminent threat" from North Korea, including to the USA territory of Guam.

A report that surfaced Tuesday claims North Korea could have as many as 60 nuclear weapons. They point to the 15-0 Security Council vote on August 5 to impose new sanctions on North Korea, which both China and Russian Federation backed.

U.S. President Donald Trump's threats of "fire and fury" against North Korea couldn't come at a worse time for China.

For weeks, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has been building what he calls a "peaceful pressure" campaign, roping worldwide partners into a broad effort to push the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to stop brandishing its missiles and weapons and come to the negotiating table.

US stocks fell, with the S&P 500 at a session low after Trump's comment, while a widely followed measure of stock market anxiety spiked higher and was on track to close at a one-month high.

The US dollar index edged down and the safe-haven yen strengthened against the US currency after North Korea's response.

The comments come as Trump and North Korea traded escalating threats.

Experts worry Trump's rhetoric could hurt the United States by feeding North Korean insecurities and adding instability to an already tenuous situation.

US defense officials have said there are few good military options to deal with North Korea.

As for what North Korea's way out looks like, Tillerson replied that the country's leaders in Pyongyang should agree to talks about its nuclear program - and with "the right expectations" of the scope of the discussion. Wednesday marked the 72nd anniversary of the atomic bombing of the city of Nagasaki by the United States.

"After many years of failure, countries are coming together to finally address the dangers posed by North Korea", Trump said. Studies have estimated South Korean casualties from artillery barrages to be in the tens of thousands on the first day of conflict.

- The Guam plan was in response to the United States flying two B-1B bombers from the Pacific island over the Korean peninsula on Monday.

Pyongyang's statement said the sanctions were caused by a "heinous United States plot to isolate and stifle" North Korea. She called on Trump to show "steady leadership" and work with the global community to de-escalate tensions.

The alert status at Andersen Airforce Base on Guam had not been changed as of Wednesday morning, according to the duty officer at the base's public affairs office.

Tillerson said he never considered re-routing his trip from Malaysia so as to avoid stopping in Guam.

For North Korea, having a nuclear-tipped missile that could strike America would be the ultimate guarantee against USA invasion. John McCain, R-Ariz., said of the president's remarks, "That kind of rhetoric, I'm not sure that helps".

CNN and The Washington Post reported Tuesday that USA intelligence analysts have assessed that North Korea has produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead, according to multiple sources familiar with the analysis of North Korea's missile and nuclear program.

Trump comments came as North Korea spurned a new round of sanctions approved by the United Nations Security Council and pledged to continue to press forward with development of nuclear weapons that could reach the US mainland.

The North is threatening the United States with the prospect of a nuclear-armed long-range missile, and Sen. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.

"It strikes me as an amateurish reflection of a belief that we should give as we get rhetorically". Previous administration comments have focused on finding non-military solutions.
