Doklam row not serious, Hindi, Chini Bhai-Bhai, says Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama said that the only way forward is the old adage of'Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai. PTI file

They said there has been no specific movement of troops and weapons by the Indian Army in the area, adding whatever "movement" is taking place is for maintenance goal.

Dalai Lama says that he resides only in the place where there is freedom, and thus he chose India to be his adopted home.

"It is a logjam, there is no movement at all now", said a second source with knowledge of the talks.

Indian and Chinese troops have been embroiled in a seven-week confrontation on the Doklam plateau, claimed by both China and India's tiny ally, Bhutan. China however regards it as its territory and calls it Dong Lang.

In Beijing, China's Foreign Ministry said the country would never give up any territory.

New Delhi and Beijing have been engaged in the standoff in the Doklam area near the Bhutan tri-junction since June after a Chinese Army's construction party attempted to build a road.

India and China have a 3,500-km (2,175-mile) -long mountain border over which they fought a 1962 war that ended in India's defeat.

The border crisis caps a year of souring diplomatic ties between the Asian giants, even though trade between the fast growing economies is rising rapidly. India and China have to live side by side....

Modi refused to join President Xi Jinping's signature Belt and Road initiative to knit together Asia and beyond, making India the lone country to boycott a summit in May.

Sources have described the present standoff as being a "no war, no peace" situation and are keen to assert that the Indian Army has not rushed its Brigades to forward locations in support of Indian soldiers in the Doklam plateau. However, India has insisted that the troop withdrawal should be mutual.

"We will keep engaging with China to resolve the dispute". On Wednesday, the Dalai Lama said, "Our small Tibetan community fully practices democracy and I am an admirer of democracy...." "Thousands of temples have been destroyed in Tibet in the last 60 years and many monks died", he said, criticising the Chinese state's measures to integrate the Tibetan region with the rest of the country.
