Ryan Giggs highlights two issues Romelu Lukaku must overcome at Manchester United

Ivan Perisic

Ryan Giggs is in no doubt that Romelu Lukaku will score goals for Manchester United next season.

Manchester City has got rid of a host of experienced players in recent days, including defensive midfielder Pablo Zabaleta and defenders Gael Clichy and Alexander Colarov.

"I think they need a couple, not to improve their starting line-up but to make the squad better, while they've also got the Wembley factor, so they really need to get off to a good start".

"They've got a top manager and he's got an open cheque book".

"You can't ignore Chelsea due to their quality, but have they got the squad to balance defending the Premier League and European football?"

The former Everton striker enjoyed a very positive pre-season with the Red Devils and will lead the offensive department next week against Real Madrid in the Super Cup.

And while he says Lukaku can be a new attacking threat for United, he must work on his first touch and become more consistent if the Old Trafford club is to compete.

And the Welshman, speaking to Sky Sports, had no doubt in his mind that Lukaku, who managed 24 goals in the Premier League last term, would continue his lethal streak under Jose Mourinho.

The race for the top four is set to be extremely tight in the upcoming campaign, with rivals Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United all strengthening considerably.

"What they needed to get right was their defence and it will be interesting to see how Ederson settles in, because you don't win the Premier League with an average goalkeeper".

'There were too many home games last season where we didn't take our chances but it's not just down to Lukaku, the rest of the team need to be contributing as well'.
